Once upon a time, Edirne was a city - the capital of the Ottoman Empire. It amazes with its unique mosques. The most famous is the Selimiye Mosque, which was created by the genius of Ottoman architecture Mimar Sinan with his cosmic talent. He has more than 300 creations to his credit, and his legacy was continued by his disciples, who later built the Sultanahmet Mosque in Istanbul and the Taj Mahal in Agra. ⠀
⠀
The Selimiye Mosque was built by order of Sultan Selim 2 between 1569 and 1575 and is distinguished by its unusual design, which allows visitors to see the mihrab from anywhere in the mosque. ⠀
⠀
The giant dome also has its own unique history. It survived the siege of the Bulgarians in 1913 thanks to its solid construction. The Selimiye Mosque is the pearl of the city of Edirne. ⠀
The Bayazid 2 Mosque and Complex was built in 1488. It is named after Sultan Bayezid, who ruled in the Ottoman Empire between 1481 and 1512. ⠀
The Uch-Sherefeli Mosque in Edirne was also built by the order of the Sultan, only this time Murad 2 and completed in 1447. Its name translates as a Mosque with three minarets and balconies. ⠀
When the mosque was first built, its beautiful dome was the largest in the Ottoman Empire. The most striking feature is the dome with traditional hand-painted motifs with an emphasis on dark shades of red. The Uch-Sherefeli-Jami Mosque was badly damaged by a powerful earthquake in 1751. It was partially restored in 1763 and completely restored in 1930 and 1999. Uch-Sherefeli in Edirne became an example of a structure erected during the search for new forms of Ottoman architecture. It clearly demonstrates the transition from the Seljuk style of Konya and Bursa to the classic Ottoman style of Istanbul mosques. ⠀

It was built by order of the same Murad 2 in 1436 and is most notable for the tiles that adorn the mihrab. The frieze in the prayer hall is a unique piece of blue and white porcelain. ⠀
