Van Kedisi

Ağustos 29, 2024

Van Kedisi, also known as the Turkish Swimming Cat, is a rare breed that lives in the Lake Van area. These cats are distinguished by their independent character and powerful build. They have a tiger-like gait and a broad chest, which is typical of good swimmers. The body tapers to a tail reminiscent of a fox. Van cats can have blue or copper eyes, and there are also specimens with different eye colors. However, the opinion that all Van cats must have different colored eyes is erroneous.

A distinctive feature of the Van cat is their unique coloring. Their thick, water-repellent white fur is decorated with red spots on the head and left side, and the tail is colored in rings. This arrangement of spots is called "Van coloring". These cats are excellent hunters, they catch mice, lizards, birds, insects and even fish. In addition, they are not averse to eating some fruits, such as melon or watermelon. One of the most amazing features of the Van cat is their love for water. This is the only cat breed that is not afraid of water and even loves to swim. Since ancient times, these cats have caught fish in Lake Van, even at -35 °C. They can also measure the temperature of food with their front paw.

The Turkish Van is a hypoallergenic breed. It is not afraid of water and bathes more often than other cats, washing off the Fel d1 protein from its fur, which causes watery eyes, a sore throat and sneezing in people with increased sensitivity to allergens.
