Will Alanya finally become a province of its own?

June 16, 2023

Talks about giving Alanya the status of a province have been going on for a long time and it seems now it is indeed becoming a reality. MHP party leader Devlet Bahceli made a proposal at a group meeting to create 19 new provinces in Turkey. The ruling AK Party responded positively to the proposal and accepted it for consideration. Among the eligible districts, Alanya ranks first.

It is also proposed to add 27 new districts. Thus, if the deputies make a positive decision on this issue, the administrative structure of Turkey will consist of 100 provinces and 1000 districts, which is quite symbolic since this year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic.

The criteria to be met by a region to receive the status of a province are as follows: population of at least 100 thousand people, the region is located at least 30 kilometers from the center of the province, developed infrastructure, good transport accessibility, economic diversity and educational level.

List of regions with a chance to become a province: Alanya, Antalya Polatlı, Ankara Yüksekova, Hakkari Cahta, Adıyaman Midyat, Mardin Siverek, Şanlıurfa Ergani, Diyarbakır Cizre, Şirnak Nazilli, Aydın Edremit, Balıkesir Manavgat, Antalya Luleburgaz, Kırklareli Bandirma, Balıkesir İskenderun, Hatay İnegöl, Bursa Unie, Ordu Kozan, Adana Fethiye, Muğla Ercış, Van Tarsus, Mersin Akhisar, Manisa Çorlu, Tekirdağ Ereğli, Konya Elbistan, Kahramanmaras.

Do you think Alanya will become an independent province?
