Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the damage caused to the country's economy by the February earthquake, which led to destruction in 11 provinces and the death of thousands of people, amounted to $ 104 billion.
Erdogan sent a video message to the conference entitled "Turkish-German Conference: The Role of the European Private Sector in strengthening Business Peace in earthquake-affected regions", organized by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In his video message, Erdogan thanked the countries and organizations that rushed to help during the earthquake and made the following statements:
"In these earthquakes, which were called the catastrophe of the century, we lost more than 50 thousand of our citizens. In 11 provinces affected by the earthquake, 311,000 buildings fell into disrepair. Jobs, agricultural land, commercial enterprises and factories were damaged. 14 million people have personally felt the negative effects of the earthquake. We are making active efforts to normalize life in the region. In October and November, we will be renting out new houses one by one. In total, we plan to build 650 thousand houses. We are determined to make our cities safer and more durable than before," the president said.
