Turkish citizens living in Germany will now be able to regain Turkish citizenship while retaining German citizenship

On 19 January 2024, the Bundestag passed the "Law on Modernization of Citizenship Legislation (StARModG)", which came into force on 27 June 2024. This law will also affect Turkish citizens, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey: "Members of the Turkish community in Germany will now be able to regain their Turkish citizenship while retaining German citizenship".

"Our consulates-general in Germany will be ready to accept applications from that date, says the MFA statement - this legal agreement, which the Turkish community in Germany has been waiting for many years, is a positive, significant and valuable event from the point of view of the Turkish-Turkishgerman relations".
