How to stay in Turkey legally? Types of residence permits.

Turkey - an amazing country with a rich cultural heritage, endless beaches, gentle sea, incredible natural attractions, colorful bazaars and excellent service. No wonder that many foreigners choose this country not only for recreation, but also for permanent residence. Consider the options how to do it officially.

Tourist residence permit.
 After a visa-free period of stay (from 30 to 90 days, depending on the country of arrival), you can apply for a tourist ikamet - a card confirming a legal stay in Turkey. 

 Residence permit on tapu (tapu - certificate of ownership)
If you decide to finally move to Turkey and you bought an apartment/villa/commercial real estate, you can get a residence permit on tapu for yourself and your family. To get this residence permit expert value of the property must be at least 50.000 dollars in small towns and not less than 75.000 euros in large cities. After 5 years of stay in Turkey with this residence permit, you can apply for Turkish citizenship subject to certain conditions. 
Important! When buying a property, the cadastral value of which is $ 400,000 or more, you can apply for citizenship immediately after completion of the transaction. Note that recently the media are increasingly discussing the topic of increasing the entry threshold. It is likely that it will indeed be raised.

Residence permit for students
If you are planning to study in Turkey in public or private educational institutions, you can get a student ikamet for the duration of training. In most cases students are allowed to work in Turkey. 

Residence permit for work
If you are a foreign professional employed by a Turkish employer you will be provided all necessary documents for obtaining a residence permit for work, including medical insurance. After a continuous stay in Turkey for five years on a work permit, you can apply for citizenship.  

Residence permit for business and/or investment
If you plan to do business or invest in Turkey, you can apply for a residence permit based on business and/or investment. Opening your own company or sole proprietorship takes no more than two weeks, provided that a minimum registered capital of 10 thousand lira is deposited in the account before the work visa is issued. Investors who have invested over 500 thousand dollars in the Turkish economy (eg buying real estate, land, government bonds or shares of investment funds) may be eligible for citizenship for themselves and their family members.  

Family Residence Permit
If you are the spouse of a Turkish citizen, you can obtain a family residence permit. After three years of marriage you can apply for citizenship. 

There are also residence permits for foreigners who came to the country for medical treatment and humanitarian residence permit (for refugees). 

IMPORTANT: All of the above types of residence permits, except for a residence permit for work and study do not give the right to work in Turkey.

Rules for the import of medicines in the UAE in 2024 

The UAE authorities remind citizens who wish to visit the country of the need to obtain a special permit for carrying certain types of medicines. The new guide, issued in the UAE, is intended for residents, tourists and transit passengers who plan to bring medical drugs into the country. Travelers should carry prescriptions for some medicines and check if they are subject to special control. All UAE residents, tourists and transit passengers are required to have a permit for the importation and storage of controlled and semi-controlled drugs. It can be obtained on the website of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap). Class A controlled drugs (CDA) are narcotic and psychotropic drugs that are often used in acute and chronic diseases. Class B (CDb) drugs are semi-controlled. Controlled drugs include strong analgesics (e.g., morphine, codeine, fentanyl), psychoactive drugs (e.g., benzodiazepines, antidepressants, neuroleptics), stimulants (e.g., methylphenidate, amphetamines), sedatives and tranquillizers (for example, barbiturates, some sleeping pills). For the importation of controlled drugs, travellers must obtain prior authorization from Mohap and submit relevant documents in Arabic or English, Including a valid medical prescription and an authenticated certificate or authorization from the competent authority of the country of dispatch. Travellers may import prescription drugs for personal use for a period of no more than three months, provided they have an active medical prescription. The UAE prohibits the importation of unregistered or banned drugs, as well as medicinal herbs that may be authorized in the country of origin. For all other herbal medicines, the import procedure is similar to conventional prescription drugs.

Drilling and research vessels of Turkey

Turkey is moving towards its goal of becoming an energy-independent country, and therefore pays special attention to its "energy fleet". At present, the country owns two seismic exploration and four drilling vessels. The will in Turkey: important information for foreigners 

If a foreigner wants to leave a will in Turkey, it is important to consider that it must comply with Turkish inheritance law. Turkish law provides for a guaranteed share (saklı pay) for certain categories of heirs, regardless of the contents of the will. Such heirs include children, spouses and parents. Legal heirs not mentioned in the will may apply to the court for their share of the inheritance. Brothers and sisters are not entitled to a guaranteed share. Inheritance in Turkey in the absence of a will 1. If there is a spouse and children: - 1/4 of the estate is received by the spouse - 3/4 is divided between the children. 2. If no children: - 1/2 of the estate is received by the spouse - 1/2 is divided between parents (if no parents, then between brothers and sisters) 3. If there are no children and parents: - 3/4 of the estate is received by the spouse- 1/4 is divided between the grandmother and grandfather of the deceased and their children (uncle, aunt) 4. If there are no other relatives besides the spouse: - All inheritance goes to the spouse. 5. If there are no relatives and spouse:- The whole estate goes to the state. Given these features, it is important to carefully consider the drafting of a will in Turkey to avoid possible legal disputes.
