The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has unveiled two tourism projects related to the construction of a hydroelectric power plant at the 25th Dubai Expo. The first project, Sustainable Hatta Waterfalls, is a renewable energy source and eco-friendly oasis. Four zones will be created within the hydropower plant area, connected by bridges crossing a water channel and ending in a full-fledged lake with a corresponding natural aquatic environment. The waterfalls project, designed in the shape of a hexagonal beehive, will include an 80x30 meter mural depicting the late Sheikhs Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the founding fathers of the UAE.
The second project, Dubai Mountain Top, is a cable car route that runs over Hatta Dam and the Upper Lake of the hydroelectric plant, and then through the mountains to the Um Al-Nesoor peak at 1,300 meters above sea level. These projects combine sustainable development and eco-tourism, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about clean energy production and interact with nature.
Managing Director of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said that the 250 MW Hatta hydroelectric power plant, the first in the GCC region, will be operational within a year. He also emphasized that the projects are being implemented using modern technology and taking into account the unique geology of the Hatta region, aiming to meet high international environmental standards and preserve the Hatta Mountain Reserve. DEWA aims to offer guests a unique experience and showcase the beauty of the UAE's mountainous regions. Of course, a children's play area, cafes and restaurants are provided.
