Mersin's beekeepers have started harvesting honey

August 11, 2023

In Erdemli, local beekeepers have started harvesting honey from hives located on the high plateau of Musa Bozuldu. Honey production in the region is supported by the beekeeping department of the Alata Horticulture Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. In winter, the hives are kept on the territory of the institute. In summer they are transported to the Taurus Mountains at an altitude of 2300 meters.

Thanks to the ideal ecology and the diversity of local flora, the honey is very tasty and healthy. The demand for the honey produced in the Erdemli Mountains is very high and always exceeds the supply. "From the moment the honey goes on sale, it is sold out within 15 days," said Dr. Mustafa Unlu, Director of the Beekeeping Department of the research institute.
