The first lavender garden in Mersin

The first lavender garden in Mersin

August 15, 2023

In the Erdemli district of Mersin, female entrepreneur Feride Mutlu created the first lavender garden.

Seeing the popularity of lavender fields in Isparta, the woman came up with the idea of using her vacant plot to produce lavender. The fact is that this fragrant plant can be grown without constant watering. For the first two years only, Feride watered the garden periodically, after which watering was no longer necessary.

Last year, the enterprising Feride made 20 liters of lavender oil from the lavender harvested from her plot at an altitude of 1100 meters in the Küstülü neighborhood. This year she expects to produce 100 liters of oil. In addition, the woman plans to install beehives on the site to produce valuable lavender honey.

Of course, as in other similar places, the businesswoman has installed various accessories for photo shoots: swings, colorful frames, etc.

"This is a unique place in our region, ideal for lavender growing and waterless farming. I want other farmers to follow my example so that we can develop our region together and attract tourists here," Feride Mutlu said.
