Turkish Airlines on July 14 registered a new low-cost subsidiary, AJet Air Transport Joint Stock Company, with authorized capital of 450 million liras ($17.2 million). Turkish Airlines is using its low-cost carrier AnadoluJet as its base, which currently has a fleet of four A320s, twelve A321s, seven B737-8s and forty-six B737-800s. The company will be the first full-fledged Turkish low-cost carrier and will compete with Europe's Easyjet, Germanwings and Ryanair.
Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat said work is already underway to set up AJet's reservation system. "We hope to launch the first flights in the first quarter of 2024," he said.
