Turkey and Japan open joint university in Istanbul

December 2, 2023

In October 2015, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during his visit to Japan, announced an agreement to establish the Turkey-Japan Technology Research University (TJSTU) in Istanbul. The project, which was conceived back in 2013, is the result of longstanding cooperation between the two countries, combining their strengths in the pursuit of excellence, where Turkey's cultural heritage is combined with Japan's advanced technology.

Prof. Bekir Sami Yilbas, Rector of TJSTU, emphasized that the establishment of this institution promotes academic exchange between the countries. The concept of the joint university expresses the desire for a deep understanding between Turkey and Japan, creating not only an educational institution but also a bridge that connects scholars, students and ideas through the synergy of the two countries.

Yilbas' words emphasize that TJSTU will not only train qualified personnel for Turkey's future, but also contribute to the development of global science, industry and technology through research. The university strives for international recognition in various fields of science, meeting high standards for the exchange of knowledge, know-how, science and experience.
