Innovations in taxation of rental income in Turkey

The annual declaration of rental income goes down in history. Rent income will now be taxed automatically. The rental tax (Real Estate Capital Income - GMSI), which is paid by those who rent out their dwellings, filing a declaration once a year, plan to be converted into an automatic tax. The tenants will pay the rent through the bank. The bank will make a 20% deduction from the rent, withholding it as a tax and transferring the money to the state, and the rest of the money will be deposited into the account of the lessor. It is expected that this will increase the amount of rent tax levied by the State and generate an additional income of 40 billion lire. Under this method, the rent tax, which is usually 15%, will increase to 20%. After the automatic cancellation of the tax, lessors will be able to declare their expenses and claim the refund of the overpaid tax. It is stated that the rules will be valid for rental income earned from 2025. We remind that according to the current legislation, the tax on rental income received during the year is paid by filing a declaration in the following year. When filing a declaration, the tax exemption is deducted from the total income, which increases annually at the revaluation rate, and the remainder is subject to progressive tax, starting at 15%.

Turkey to install fandomats for reception of used packagings

Under the "Zero Waste in Turkey" programme, the first 5,000 fandomats are planned to be installed as from 1 January 2025. Bottles of water, soda, cola and other beverages from 100 ml to 3 liters can be handed over for 25 chickens per piece. An electronic wallet will be opened for receiving payments for used packaging via T rkiye Emlak Katılım Bankası. The accumulated money can be used for shopping. The programme is managed by the Turkish Environmental Protection Agency under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The DYS system was originally planned to be introduced on January 1, 2021, but the preparation process was delayed for various reasons. Turkey consumes 20 billion glass, plastic and aluminum beverage packages annually. Representatives of the Ministry said that the collection of used containers would make the economy profit annually up to 500 million euros. Some representatives of the sector consider that the return fee for one container in 25 chickens is too low and should be 1 lira.

Gilindir Cave in Mersin opened for visitors

The Gilindir Cave, also known as the Ainalyg l Cave (mirrored lake), is located 7.5 km southeast of the Aydınjk (Silifke) area, between Cape Sanjak and Kurtini Creek. The cave, the entrance to which is facing the sea, can be reached by land and by sea. 8-10 years ago, the cave was discovered by shepherd absolutely by accident. The Gilindir Cave, which has a total length of 351 meters, is a horizontal cave. Located right on the edge of one of the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean, the cave Gilindir is covered with drop-like formations of all kinds. These drop-like stones, which reach gigantic size and are extremely beautiful in appearance, divided the main gallery into many halls and rooms. The cave has a large lake, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, walls, mounted droppers and cave needles, forming islets at the edge of the lake. Some parts of the main gallery are inhabited by bats. In addition, the coves around the cave, which can be reached by sea and land, are the habitat of a Mediterranean monk seal. It is assumed that the submarine formations predate global climate change and store all hydrological and atmospheric data from the previous ice age. Due to these features, the Gilindir cave is the only evidence of recent climate change in the Eastern Mediterranean. Due to these features, the cave is considered unique to geologists and is a natural laboratory.

Turkish farmers complain that they can not find shepherds for a salary of 50 thousand lire

The development of technology and the growing trend towards urbanization have affected shepherding, a traditional profession in the agricultural regions of Turkey. The profession, which used to be inherited, today does not attract young people. In the Zara district of Sivas, residents cannot find a shepherd with a salary of 50,000 lire ($1,522 with accommodation and food). Herdsmen suffer financial losses as victims of fraudsters. Zeki Shimshek, president of the District Chamber of Agriculture: "We are faced with such a problem: the shepherd with whom we agreed for 50 thousand lire receives an offer of 61 thousand lire elsewhere and immediately leaves the herd. Even if it is in the mountains, it leaves the animals at the same time. Our ministry must do something about the shortage of shepherds. We must support our youth and the livery industry." H dyr Özt rk, resident of the village of Eimir: "We cannot find people who would graze our animals. We had a deal with three people this year, they said they didn t have the money to come, so I transferred the money to their accounts. When I got the money, they blocked me and turned off my phones. We offer 300,000 lire in exchange for caring for 150 head of cattle for six months. We provide the shepherds with accommodation, food, clothing and every two weeks we will pay a hairdresser. Despite this, we never found a conscientious employee".
