Alanya developers complained that they could not find workers for a salary of 4,000 lira per day ($125)
Alanya developers complain about the shortage of labor. The president of the Alanya Contractors Association, Mustafa Kucyuker, said he could not find workers, although he offered a salary of 4,000 lira per day. Kucyuker said that labor costs currently exceed the cost of construction itself.:"There is a serious problem with the workforce in our industry. Previously, 20% of the construction cost was labor costs, and 80% was construction materials and other expenses. Now the situation is reversed. The current universities have engineering and architecture departments relevant to our sector, but there are no departments for workers such as electricians, plumbers, tile workers, whom we call intermediate staff, and there is a sharp decrease in their number. This leads to excessive costs in the sector. The number of such departments in professional universities should be increased, otherwise we will face an insurmountable problem in the future. In terms of labor prices, we are now close to Europe."

The Central Bank of Turkey raised the discount rate by 500 basis points to 50%
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has made its second interest rate decision under the leadership of new Chairman Fatih Karakhan. Contrary to market expectations, the Central Bank of Turkey has decided to raise the interest rate by 500 basis points to 50%. Taking into account the deterioration of the inflation forecast, the Committee decided to raise the rate. The tight stance of monetary policy will be maintained until the underlying trend of monthly inflation decreases significantly and for a long time, and inflation expectations come closer to the forecasted range. The Central Bank's management believes that a decisive course of monetary policy will lead to a decrease in the underlying trend of monthly inflation, and disinflation will be established in the second half of 2024 due to rebalancing domestic demand, a real strengthening of the Turkish lira and an improvement in inflation expectations. The Committee plans to bring inflation to the target level of 5% in the medium term.
