June 16, 2021

Preparations for the Sand Sculpture Festival have begun In the Turkish city of Antalya, which is being held for the 16th time.

The festival takes place on Lara Beach and attracts a large number of local and foreign visitors every year. Sand sculptures on the theme “Wonders of the World, Mythology and Marine Legends” were presented at the festival last year.

A number of foreign sculptors will stay in the area at specific time intervals amid the fight against coronavirus and build their own sculptors.

More than 10 thousand tons of sand will be used in the construction of the sculptures.

The head of the organizing committee of the festival, Cem Karaca, in an interview with the Anadolu agency, noted that the festival in Antalya is one of the largest sand sculpture festivals in the world in terms of the amount of sand used, the number of sculptures and the timing of the festival - the festival in Antalya is open to the public all year round.

According to him, the pandemic continues to negatively affect the social life of people, in particular in the field of organizing cultural events.

“Despite the fact that many sand sculpture events in the world have been canceled, we will continue our activities this year even in difficult conditions, taking the necessary measures to counter the pandemic,” Karaca said.
