The summer tourist season in Turkey will not close in October, as it usually happens, but will last until the end of the year to compensate for the losses of hotels and travel agencies from the actually blurred opening of the season this spring. This decision was announced by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy immediately after the news of the resumption of air communication with Russia. He also expects that Turkey will be able to "close the season" with significantly more tourists than last year. However, something can hinder these plans.
“Turkey has managed to manage the fight against coronavirus in a controlled manner with minimal damage through the measures and investments it has made in the health sector. The best result of this was the opening of international air traffic one after another in the last 10 days, ”the minister said.
According to him, the passenger traffic to the airports of Antalya and Istanbul has increased by 30-35% over the past 10 days. And in the future, much more significant growth is expected - primarily due to the opening of Russia.
Ersoy also added that over the past 10 days, air links have opened with Switzerland, Germany, France and the United States. “Since there is the same problem all over the world, we expect a season that started late to end late. In other words, the season will not end at the end of October this year, it will most likely last until the end of the year. We hope to end this season with a much higher rate than last year, ”the Turkish minister said. As a result, according to his forecasts, the share of the tourism sector in the gross national product can be increased from 4% to 7.5-8%.
