April 23 - Children's Day in Turkey

April 20, 2024

On April 23, Turkey celebrates the state holiday of National Sovereignty and Children's Day (Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı). On this day, citizens celebrate the anniversary of the first convocation of the Grand National Assembly in 1920 to prepare for the national liberation war. The holiday became Children's Day according to the will of Kemal Ataturk, who said that the key to a happy future of the nation is in its children.

On April 23, holidays for children are held in all cities of Turkey. Concerts, fun contests and other entertainment events are held in city squares. The holiday is an official weekend, so all government offices will be closed.

On this day, the TCG GÖKSU warship (F-497) and the Coast Guard cutter TCSG 92 will be open for free access in the port of Alanya. Visiting hours are from 10:00-17:00.
