March 31, 2024: Municipal elections in Turkey

December 8, 2023

Municipal elections will be held throughout the country on March 31, 2024, but all parties have already started their election campaigns. The upcoming elections are of great importance to the ruling party led by the Turkish president, as Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and several other major cities in the country are ruled by opposition mayors. It is clear that the Justice and Development Party (Turkish: AKP) will try to return to power in these most important metropolitan areas of the country.

It is known that Adem Murat Yucel and Mustafa Toklu have put forward their candidacies for the post of mayor in Alanya. The former is the incumbent mayor and a representative of the National Movement Party (Turkish: MNM) party, the latter is the chief architect of Alanya and a member of the ruling party (Turkish: AKP). The final lists of candidates for Turkey's municipal elections will be announced by provincial and district election boards on Sunday, March 3.

P.S. In Turkey, the administrative fine for not attending the elections is 300 Turkish Liras.
