The construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Mersin, one of the safest provinces of Turkey in terms of earthquake resistance, is in full swing. Akkuyu is the largest joint project of Russia and Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP unit will be launched in the near future.
It is reported that when the nuclear power plant is operating at full capacity, it will generate about 35 billion kWh per year, providing 10% of Turkey's electricity needs. The authorities plan to build another nuclear power plant in Turkey.
