Ancient city of Siedra to be opened for tourists

September 11, 2023

The ancient city of Siedra, located in Alanya's Seki district and dating back to the 9th century B.C., will be opened for visits by groups of tourists. Work is currently underway to uncover important parts of the ancient city. The Turkish Historical Society and Alanya Municipality are working with the permission and support of the General Directorate of Cultural Properties and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The ancient city highlights the columned street, the baptismal cave, the bathhouse, the parliament building, the floor mosaic of the "12 feats of Hercules", the recently discovered statue of the goddess of victory "Niki", the staircases connecting the streets, water cisterns, etc.

"The city has large streets running parallel to each other, as well as streets and staircases connecting these streets. This year we will endeavor to complete the reconstruction of these staircases. Once these works are completed, the city will have a full-fledged excursion route. Our goal is to open the city to visitors already this year," Ertug Ergürer said.
