Any of us in these hot days would definitely enjoy swimming pools, artificial waterfalls, fruit ice and vegetable smoothies. In Tarsus, however, all of these amenities are offered to the residents of the city's zoo, Tarsus Hayvanat Bahçesi. The zoo staff fills pools every day where the animals can cool off. Special irrigation systems are provided for animals that are not suitable for swimming in the pools. Fruit ice and refreshing vegetable cocktails are also added to the animals' regular diet.
The Tarsus Zoo has been operating since 2013 and covers an area of 11000 m2. It is located just 27 kilometers away from Mersin. Visitors can see here about 1350 animals and birds: tigers, wolves, lions, bears, bears, lynx, zebras, giraffe, elephant, flamingos and many others. There is also a pond for waterfowl, a hall with large aquariums for fish and a terrarium. A children's playground, resting place and free restrooms are provided. Nearby is the picturesque Berdan Baraj pond.
