Dr. Yalcin Eyigün, General Manager for Infrastructure Investments at the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, said that the project is an environmentally friendly and highly efficient railroad. The project aims to connect Mersin, Turkey's second largest container port, with the country's inland cities of Adana, Osmaniye and Gaziantep. In addition, its implementation will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 150 thousand tons per year.

It is important that the project of RÖNESANS Holding has received support of 781 million euros from the UK Export Finance/UKEF. A press conference was held at the British Consulate General in Istanbul to discuss the details of the project. The meeting was attended by UK Export Minister Lord Offord, Turkish Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury Osman Celik, Director General for Infrastructure Investments at the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. Yalcin Eyigün, British Consul General in Istanbul Kenan Poleo, RÖNESANS Holding Chairman Erman İlıcak and JP Morgan Turkey Director Mustafa Bagriacık.

Dr. Yalçın Eyıgün delivered a speech at the consulate meeting. "The reason we are gathered here today is the 286-kilometer-long high-speed electric railroad project. The new road will connect the provinces of Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye and Gaziantep. By implementing this environmentally friendly project, we will transport goods and passengers at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour, reduce travel time to 2 hours and 15 minutes, reduce accidents and reduce fuel consumption," he said.
