Turkish products with European Union geographical indications increased to 23

Rifat Hisarjklyoglu, president of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), announced that Bingöl Honey and Osmaniye Peanuts have received geographical indication from the European Union (EU). As a result, the number of products registered geographically by the EU increased to 23.

Hisarjklyoglu: "We, as TOBB and the stock exchange community, are actively working to create local and geographically labeled products. At present, the EU registration process is ongoing for an additional 53 geographical products and 5 traditional product names".

Turkey products already registered in the EU: Pakhlaw from Gaziantep, figs from Aydin, apricot from Malatya, chestnut from Aydin, olive oil from Milas, white oil from Bayramich, garlic from Tashkerwo, hazel from Giresun, Kunefe from Antaquia, Granada from Suruca, Walnut from Chaglaianserite, olives from Gemlík, Edremit olive oil, olives from Milas, tomatoes from Ayaş, tarkhan Kahramanmaraş, olives from Remit Green, cheese from Ezine, Sabolu, olive oil from Memn, olive oil from Arabaydın, Copper from Meme.

Türkiye increases purchases of Western LNG: new contract with TotalEnergies.

Turkey s state-owned energy company Botas has signed a new long-term contract with France s TotalEnergies for the supply of 16 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year. The agreement will come into force in 2027 and is designed for 10 years, providing Turkey with an additional 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

Turkey's Finance Ministry to Reveal Names of Major Tax Debtors

Finance and Treasury Minister Mehmet Simsek said the names of taxpayers with tax arrears and fines of 5 million lira or more will be made public. Those who do not want to be on the list of "tax debtors" will have to pay off their debts by the end of September 2024. Taxpayers from earthquake-hit areas will be excluded from the measure.
