What are BIMS blocks?

What are BIMS blocks?

April 4, 2023

When telling our clients about projects under construction in Turkey, we often mention BIMS blocks used in the construction of buildings. During the construction of our Palm Brandom project, BIMS building blocks are also used. Let's figure out what these blocks are and why they are so good.

BIMS blocks are pumice concrete, which uses volcanic pumice as a filler, which is a natural silicate product with a porous structure. It is she who, thanks to her porous structure, gives the blocks lightness. Due to the silicate origin, BIMS pumice blocks have high fire resistance.

An important property of the blocks is elasticity and, as a result, high resistance to destruction and mechanical stress, which is especially important for earthquake-prone regions.

The main advantages of BIMS include high thermal insulation and sound insulation qualities, as well as the ability to "breathe", thanks to which humidity regulation occurs naturally in the built rooms.

By the way, the Turkish manufacturer of pumice blocks "Kaleblokbims" manufactures BIMS blocks not only for the domestic market, but also supplies them abroad, including to the Russian market.
