Democracy and National Unity Day in Turkey

Today the whole country celebrates the Day of Democracy and National Unity - Milli Birlik ve Demokrasi Günü. The holiday was celebrated after the coup attempt in July 2016. During the clashes, more than 240 people were killed and about 2,000 injured.

Since then, July 15 has been an official public holiday and a day off. Various events dedicated to the memory of the victims are being held in all cities across the country. In Alanya, a festive motorcade will drive through the city at 17-00, and in the evening a concert will be held in the square near the municipality building.

Turkey s state-owned energy company Botas has signed a new long-term contract with France s TotalEnergies for the supply of 16 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year. Turkey's Finance Ministry to Reveal Names of Major Tax Debtors

Finance and Treasury Minister Mehmet Simsek said the names of taxpayers with tax arrears and fines of 5 million lira or more will be made public. Those who do not want to be on the list of "tax debtors" will have to pay off their debts by the end of September 2024. Taxpayers from earthquake-hit areas will be excluded from the measure.
