An İYİ parti deputy has proposed to charge a city tax from tourists in Antalya

An İYİ parti deputy has proposed to charge a city tax from tourists in Antalya

November 30, 2023

Aykut Kaya proposed to charge a symbolic fee from both foreign visitors and citizens of the republic who come from other provinces to vacation in Antalya. The deputy explained his proposal by the fact that the region is taking on an increased load, which raises the level of costs for its infrastructure.

"With a total population of 2.7 million people, Antalya receives 9 times more people in the high season. This load has a tangible impact on the city's infrastructure," Kaya said. He also noted that large hotel chains that receive tourists in Antalya are actually registered in Istanbul Ankara, where all the profits are sent, bypassing Antalya itself.

Since this year in Turkey there is also a tax on accommodation in hotels, resorts, guest houses and other accommodation facilities. The amount of duty is 2% of the total cost of rooms.

Recall that since January 1, 2023 in Turkey has already introduced a tax on accommodation for tourists. Visitors will be charged a fee of 2% for accommodation in hotels, motels, hostels, guesthouses, guesthouses and campground.
