Speaking at the Tropical Fruit Festival, Gazipasa Agriculture and Forestry Director Nazan Durak Ozcelik said that farmers in Gazipasa have started growing coffee trees and have even already harvested their first coffee crop. According to Nazan, the coffee tree, which was planted as an experiment in recent years in the Kaledran (Yakacık) neighborhood of Gazipaşa, has started to bear fruit. The project is supported by the Western Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute (BATEM).
"We are proud to present the coffee tree grown in Gazipasa. Coffee is a high value-added product that will undoubtedly contribute to the economic development of the region. Turkish coffee will now be grown on Turkish soil," Ozcelik noted.
