Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri has been appointed Commander of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri, who will serve as Commander of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus

Prior to his current appointment, Batsuuri held senior positions both within his country and in the UN and NATO structures. In addition to serving in the Mongolian army, he also performed international duties under the auspices of NATO and the United Nations in various regions such as Iraq, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan and Liberia.

UNFICYP (the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus) has been operating on the island since 1964. Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri replaces Norwegian Major General Ingrid Gjerde, to whom the UN expressed gratitude for the work done.
