MESKİ Municipality's Water and Sewerage Department uses solar energy in its facilities

MESKİ Municipality's Water and Sewerage Department uses solar energy in its facilities

June 9, 2023

The Department of Water and Sewerage Administration of Mersin Municipality (MESKİ) drew attention to the energy efficiency and economic viability of systems powered by renewable energy sources. As a result, MESKİ generated about 10 million kWh of energy from solar and biogas power plants in 1 year.

Using solar energy, one of the cleanest and most reliable renewable energy sources in the world, MESKİ makes investments in order to produce the energy needed for its facilities (water treatment plants). Today, the growing demand for energy, the rapid depletion of energy resources, the environmental damage caused by consumption and the dependence of many countries on foreign sources of energy make effective energy conservation a necessity in every field. MESKİ has started to provide almost all of its energy consumption from the sun by installing 2.82 MWp rooftop solar power plants in Toroslar, Tarsus and Yenisehir districts. The total capacity of the installations is 2,700 kW.
