"Year of Energy" in Turkey

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, made a statement and provided information on the "Energy Year" and the "Fully Energy Independent Turkey" programme.

New discoveries
At the Sakarya gas field, daily production of natural gas exceeded 5.1 million m3. This field can now meet the natural gas needs of 2 million households. Fatih Drilling Ship also started drilling Göktepe-1 and Göktepe-2 wells.

Preferential gas prices
After the commissioning of the Black Sea deposit, the first month of its use was free for citizens, including heating. In addition, 25 m3 of gas was provided free of charge. As a result, during the year, the gas cost of 87 billion lire was not included in the accounts.

Gabara record
In the Gabar district of Shirnak the historical record for oil production has been broken. Out of 37 wells more than 48,380 barrels of oil are produced daily. By the end of the year, daily production will be 100,000 barrels.

Commissioning of "Accuyu" nuclear power plant
Construction of the first reactor "Accu is 90% complete. The NPP will provide 10% of Turkey’s electricity needs after full commissioning.

Natural gas exports to Europe
In line with the objective of becoming a natural gas trading centre, gas exports to Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania have started. Thus, Turkey exported natural gas to European countries for the first time.

Igdyr-Nakhchivan Gas Pipeline
The foundation of the Igdyr-Nakhchivan gas pipeline has been laid. The line, which is planned to be completed in winter, will provide Nakhchyvan with 500 million cubic meters of natural gas through Turkey.

Agreement with ExxonMobil on LNG deliveries
BOTAŞ and the American company ExxonMobil have reached an agreement on long-term trade in LNG.
 

 

Cooperation with other countries
A new cooperation agreement was signed by the end of 2030 with Azerbaijan on the supply of natural gas. An agreement was reached to transport Turkmen gas to Turkey via Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia. It was decided to increase the capacity of TANAP and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines and to work together to supply more gas to European countries.

Energy diplomacy
Energy and mineral relations have been strengthened with many countries. In this context, important cooperation has been established with Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Venezuela, USA, Azerbaijan, Georgia and China.

Türkiye increases purchases of Western LNG: new contract with TotalEnergies.

Turkey s state-owned energy company Botas has signed a new long-term contract with France s TotalEnergies for the supply of 16 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per year. The agreement will come into force in 2027 and is designed for 10 years, providing Turkey with an additional 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas annually.

Turkey's Finance Ministry to Reveal Names of Major Tax Debtors

Finance and Treasury Minister Mehmet Simsek said the names of taxpayers with tax arrears and fines of 5 million lira or more will be made public. Those who do not want to be on the list of "tax debtors" will have to pay off their debts by the end of September 2024. Taxpayers from earthquake-hit areas will be excluded from the measure.

Turkey's economic growth in the second quarter of 2024
