These are the conclusions reached by Turkish scientists. Professor, Dr. Atilla Eroglu, Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the Medical Faculty of Ataturk University, together with 4 academicians from other universities conducted a study of esophageal cancer common in Eastern Anatolia, in particular in Erzurum, Van, Agra, Mush, Bitlis, Bayburt and Erzincan. The results were published in the Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences.
In a 25-year study of 742 men and 720 women diagnosed with esophageal cancer, it was found that 85% of these patients drank very hot tea. Among other things, factors such as genetic predisposition, smoking, alcohol and a diet poor in vegetables and fruits were also taken into account.
Eroglu: "Drinking hot tea is the most common cause of cancer of the oral cavity, pharynx and esophagus in the region we studied. Tea consumed at a temperature of 85 degrees causes serious burns and cell changes in the mucous membranes of the digestive system. We recommend drinking 5-6 cups of warm (65 degrees) a day, but not hot. The disease is also common in a group drinking 15-20 cups of tea a day."
The scientists' conclusions are confirmed by studies conducted in the USA, England, Europe and China.
