Turkey's forests are giving mushroom pickers a good harvest this season. Mushroom pickers collect 10 to 30 kilograms of mushrooms per day and sell the products to exporting companies at a price of 120 to 150 liras per kilogram. They, in turn, send the mushrooms to European countries, especially Italy and Spain.
There are many types of mushrooms growing in the forests of Turkey, but the most popular are porcini, Caesar mushrooms, chanterelles and morels, and the government has allocated huge areas of forests for the cultivation of noble truffles. In the forests of Antalya, Alanya and Gazipasa, mainly redcurrants grow, which can be bought at the bazaar during the season.
