Imamoglu Ready for Change: New Opposition Party or CHP Chairman?

June 11, 2023

According to the Turkish news website Son Dakika, the upcoming congress of the opposition CHP party may raise the worrying question of choosing a new chairman. Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu is ready to run for the responsible position. However, in case this does not happen, he is determined to create his own political party with the support of İYİ Parti Chairman Meral Akşener.

Such a move by Imamoğlu could lead to a new era in Turkey's political scene. It is believed that Imamoglu's popularity and successful experience as mayor of Istanbul will be significant factors for the success of the new opposition party.
