Despite the fact that Turkey is often called the country of cats, there are various kennels and local dog breeds here. Urban residents, as a rule, get classic quadrupeds - sneezes, pugs, yorks, Labradors and retrievers. However, villagers prefer larger breeds - Turkish Shepherds, in particular kangals. Surely you have all heard about kangals, famous all over the world. They are often started by those who are engaged in animal husbandry, because kangals are not only loyal and intelligent dogs, but also full-fledged farm workers who perform the role of shepherds.
Turkish Shepherds are large, powerful dogs with an impressive appearance. Thanks to their well-developed muscles, thick fur and well-trained character, these dogs are excellent helpers. They guard the house and help graze cattle, and at the same time get along well with adults and children.
The most famous dog breed in Turkey is undoubtedly the kangal. The official name of the breed is Kangal Çoban köpeği (Kangal shepherd dog). The subspecies of this breed are kangal, Akbash, Kara Shepherd and the Turkish mastiff Aksaray Malakly, which differ in color and size.
The Turkish Kennel Club (Köpek Irklari ve Kinoloji Federasyonu, KIF), a full member of the FCI, monitors the purity of the breed of Turkish Shepherds. The breed is prohibited for export abroad.
Unfortunately, there are stray dogs in Turkey. Dogs living on city streets are necessarily chipped and vaccinated, and local residents try to feed them.
