No more short-term rentals in Turkey?

No more short-term rentals in Turkey?

October 10, 2023

The local media is full of headlines about a new bill according to which it will become practically impossible to rent an apartment for short-term rent. We are talking about the following innovations:

A special sign with relevant information will have to be installed on the short-term rented apartment

A license must be obtained from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The consent of all residents of the building must be obtained

The landlord will have to provide information about the tenants (passport data, rental period, etc.).

The fine for failure to fulfill the above conditions is 1 million liras ($35,000).

The law has not been officially adopted yet, but against the backdrop of the election campaign, the authorities are unlikely to reject it, as such a law has long been advocated by hoteliers, dissatisfied with the occupancy of hotels, and ordinary Turks, dissatisfied with high rental prices in tourist regions.

Increasing the tax base and taking care of citizens is a great slogan and a significant plus for the ruling party, but who will take care of the rights of investors, both Turkish and foreign, is still unclear.
We will keep you updated on the developments.
