Mersin Mayor Secher attended the opening ceremony of the Gateway Project

September 29, 2023

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Secer attended the inauguration ceremony of the Gateway Project, which will be implemented in cooperation with the Governor of Mersin, Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, Turkish State Railways Department (TCDD), General Directorate of Roads (KGM) and Mersin International Port Management Inc (MIP) to solve the traffic problem in the Mersin port area.

Vahap Secer: "Our port is one of the most important ports in the country and our task is to improve and develop its infrastructure, making it even more attractive to both local and foreign businessmen and investors. Mersin's foreign trade volume, which is approximately 4 billion dollars, should be much higher. This is the reason why we have started the realization of the large-scale "Gateway" project

Regarding the details of the project, the Mayor said the following: "In October, we will start the construction of a 2350-meter long and 22-meter wide road between Turgut Ozal Boulevard and Kurtuluş Interchange. Another project is the construction of a highway between the Free Economic Zone and Turgut Ozal Boulevard with a length of 595 meters and a width of 22 meters. As soon as possible, we plan to construct a 5550-meter-long highway between the Free Zone hub and 6594th Street, which is currently badly damaged and requires urgent repair. From now on, vehicles arriving at our port and city via these routes will be able to travel on exceptionally comfortable roads."
