Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu unveiled buses converted from diesel to electric buses

September 15, 2023

Stating that this project is a step towards environmental protection, Ekrem Imamoglu said that they intend to continue using buses that have run out of diesel engines by equipping them with electric engines. Thanks to the project, great savings will be achieved and vehicles that have reached the end of their useful life will be put back into service.

"Instead of buying a new bus with a market value of 500 thousand euros, we will invest half that amount - 250 thousand euros - in retrofitting the existing vehicles. Within the framework of the project, we will convert 10 buses in the next 5 months," said Imamoglu, after which he took a short ride on a 2006 model bus that has been converted from diesel to one hundred percent electric.
