Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Ersoy drew attention to the problem of obtaining a residence permit by foreigners

Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Ersoy drew attention to the problem of obtaining a residence permit by foreigners

March 20, 2024

The head of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Ersoy, held a number of meetings with representatives of the tourism industry and answered their questions.
One of the participants of the meeting asked the minister a question: "Many foreigners used to receive a residence permit and were an important source of winter income for the region. But now, for some reason, it is becoming more difficult to obtain a residence permit and those who cannot obtain a residence permit leave for other countries. Is there any justification for this?"

"Those who have 1.5 times the minimum wage in their bank account can still get a tourist residence permit if the relevant institution approves it," Ersoy replied.

To which representatives of the tourism sector replied that the new orders of the authorities do not allow foreigners to open accounts in local banks. The minister promised to look into the issue and discuss the problem with related departments: "I will talk to our Interior Minister."
