Mersin Municipality has increased the number of ambulances for animals

November 16, 2023

Mersin Municipality has increased the number of ambulances for the transportation of injured and sick animals. The ambulances are equipped with technical equipment and medical supplies and speed up the treatment of animals. The municipality now has five vehicles at its disposal, complete with all necessary medical drugs and materials. Animals that have received first aid are taken to temporary animal holding centers, where their treatment continues.

Hünkar Yıkılmaz, head of the Department for Domestic and Stray Animals, also said that the service has started using collars with cameras for animals released after treatment on the streets of the city. This is done to track the animals' whereabouts and their health status. "When we receive 185 calls from citizens over the phone, we study the images from the cameras on the animals' collars and take necessary measures as soon as possible," Yıkılmaz said.
