The Turkish President again called on citizens to give birth to at least three children

May 21, 2024

Speaking about the recently released birth statistics for 2023, Erdogan said that the birth statistics are worrying: 'The birth rate in 2001 was 2.38, and in 2023 it dropped to 1.51. In other words, we are below the 2.1 level, which is the threshold for self-renewal of the population. The decline in the birth rate is a major problem for Turkey. This is a disaster for Turkey. Today we better understand the importance of our call to have at least 3 children."

This is not the first time that Erdogan has appealed to citizens to give birth to more children. The President has been talking about this for the past few years. However, there is no increase in the birth rate. Apparently, appeals alone are no longer enough.
