In order for a new law to be passed, it must be approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the President of Turkey. Only deputies of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi), currently 600 in number, can introduce a new bill. The bill is then reviewed by the relevant committee (Education Committee, Defense Committee, Internal Affairs Committee, etc.). The committee's report is sent to the General Assembly, where it is reviewed and debated by all other members of parliament, after which a vote is taken. If the majority votes in favor of the law, it acquires the status of an official law and is submitted for signature to the President of the Republic, who in turn has the right to send the law for further consideration. The law signed by the President is published in the Official Gazette and enters into force on the date of publication or on the date specified in the law.
