Russians rank first among foreigners migrating to Turkey from abroad in 2022

Turkish statistical institute TurkStat has published data on international migration in the country. According to the data, the number of people emigrating from Turkey increased by 62.3% compared to 2021, while the number of people emigrating from abroad to Turkey decreased by 33.2%.

Among the foreign nationals arriving in the country in 2022, the first place is occupied by Russian citizens with 25%. Ukraine ranks second with 8.1%, followed by Iran with 6.5%, Afghanistan with 5.4% and Iraq with 4.8%. A total of 99,786 Russian citizens moved to Turkey in 2022. This is three times more than in 2021, when 31,463 Russian citizens migrated to Turkey.

When analyzing the distribution of migrants by provinces, it was found that Istanbul has the largest number of migrants with 35.4 percent. Istanbul is followed by Antalya, Ankara, Bursa and Mersin.
