Siberian cold weather is coming to Turkey

January 5, 2024

"The coldest and snowiest days in the history of the republic are coming," Turkish meteorologist Kerem Okten said. He argues his words by the fact that on January 13, 1963, Turkey already had such abnormally cold weather and the maps of that period almost completely coincide with today's period.

According to the latest forecasts, the whole country will be under the influence of a cold cyclone in the coming days. In Ankara, the air temperature is predicted to drop to -21 °. Snowfall is expected not only in Istanbul, but even in Adana and Antalya! The Emergency Coordination Center (AKOM) of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IB) reported that the cold snap will begin on the evening of January 8.

Representatives of the meteorological service warned citizens about the need to be attentive to winter conditions. It was stated that everyone, especially the elderly and children, should be careful on those days when the air temperature will drop and snowfall will increase.
