TÜIK: Domestic tourism in Turkey increased by 17.5% in 2023%

The Institute of Statistics of Turkey has published statistics on domestic tourism. According to an annual estimate, the total number of trips in 2023 increased by 17.5% compared to the previous year and reached 61 million 463 thousand. The total cost of travel within the country increased by 101% and amounted to 229 billion 795 million 451 thousand liras. Personal expenses accounted for 91% of these expenses, while package tour expenses accounted for 9%. The average cost per trip was 3.739 liras.

If we analyze the distribution of types of travel expenses by year, the largest share falls on food and beverage expenses - 32%, transport - 26.3% and accommodation - 17%. If we analyze the rate of change in these types of expenses compared to the previous year, the increase in food and beverage expenses amounted to 111%, transportation - 72%, and accommodation - 164.3%.

Travel goals: trips to relatives - 58.3%, sightseeing, rest and vacation - 33.1%, health - 3.7%. The average duration of one trip was 7.7 nights.
