Thousands of flamingos have hatched in Turkey's Bird Paradise National Park

June 13, 2023

Thousands of flamingo chicks have hatched in Turkey's national park called "Bird Paradise" (Kuş cenneti, Izmir Bird Paradise). The 425-hectare park is located in the delta of the Gediz River in Izmir in the west of the country. It is a unique nature reserve which is a potential candidate for the prestigious UNESCO World Natural Heritage List. It is known for its diverse birdlife including many species of birds (over 190 species of birds).

Flamingos receive special attention in the park. Shallow water bodies, typical for this area, become an ideal habitat for flamingos, and they come here to hatch their chicks. The park staff monitors the development process of the chicks, provides them with everything they need for healthy growth, and provides video surveillance to protect these amazing birds from any potential threats.
