A statue of the Roman goddess Niki (goddess of victory) about 1800 years old has been found in the ancient city of Siedra. Excavations in the ancient city of Syedra in the Alanya region have been going on for 5 years under the direction of Dr. Ertug Ergürer, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Archaeology at Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University. The works are supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cultural Properties and Museums and personally by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
Earlier excavations revealed a cave of Christians, a street with a colonnade, a hamam with a mosaic of "12 Works of Hercules" and a tomb. Work is proceeding apace and this is probably not the last find of the archaeologists. "The length of the found statue is 75 centimeters, however, when all the pieces are connected it will reach one meter. We have already completed work on a fragment of the hand of the goddess of victory Niki. After complete restoration, the statue will be handed over to the Alanya Archaeological Museum," Ertug Ergürer said.
