In the Turkish province of Diyarbakir, the traditional preparation of dried tomatoes for this time of year began under a scorching heat. This year, it is planned to produce about 35 thousand tons. Workers collect tomatoes for drying, the seedlings of which were planted in the ground in April. In the tomato machines, I take them to the drying area where each tomato is cut in half and left in the sun. The finished dried tomatoes are first shipped to Izmir, where they are packaged, and then sent abroad, mainly to restaurants in Italy.
Governor of Diyarbakir Murat Zorluoglu: "This year we expect the tomato harvest to be about 235 thousand tons. From them we will get about 30-35 thousand tons of dried tomatoes. Diyarbakir has a high agricultural potential. We produce wheat, cotton, corn and red lentils, and recently there has been a lot of progress in the production of tomatoes according to the requirements of the diversity policy. At the same time, this area makes a significant contribution to employment".
