A Children's Assembly meeting was held for the first time in Mersin

The first meeting of the Children's Assembly, realized by the Women and Family Department of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.

The meeting, where Mayor Vahap Secer was also present, was held at the Palace of Congresses. The program was also attended by President of the Mersin Bar Association Gazi Ozdemir, officials from the Capital Municipality, the children themselves and their families. The Metropolitan Municipality invited the children to express their opinions about the city by organizing a "Children's Assembly". In turn, the children, who took their seats as council members, conveyed their requests and wishes to Mayor Secher.

Talking about the Children's Assembly, Secher said that it includes commissions on education, culture and arts, environment and climate, equality, sports and health, press, children's rights, science and technology. The assembly will elect a chairperson, vice-chairpersons, secretariat members and deputy secretariat members. Children from all districts of Mersin will be members of the council.

"From now on, the council will meet every two months. Meetings will be held here and you will make various decisions," the mayor said addressing the children.
