The medlar harvest season ends in Mersin

Farmers of Erdemli finish collecting medlars. The fruits are sorted by size, packed in boxes and sent for sale to the domestic market and abroad. As the season is coming to an end, the price has increased and farmers are selling medlar for 25-30 lire per kilogram.

Medlar is an evergreen tree growing in warm and subtropical regions, with fragrant juicy fruits with pits inside. Medlar is a vitamin and low-calorie product. It is rich in vitamin C, B vitamins, carotene, potassium and iron, and is also an excellent antioxidant, has a positive effect on the immune system and is useful for colds.

The only disadvantage of this fruit is the short shelf life. In Turkey, you can enjoy medlar until the end of May at most. So, if you want to try a healthy diet medlar this season, we advise you to hurry up:)
