A cat museum has opened in Istanbul

October 8, 2023

A "Cat Museum" for nature and animal lovers has opened in Istanbul's Beşiktaş neighborhood. The museum was opened on October 4, World Animal Protection Day, with the cooperation of Beşiktaş Municipality with the founder of Istanbul Toy Museum Sunay Akin, a well-known journalist and philanthropist.

Speaking at the opening, Sunay Akin said: "After the Toy Museum, I never sit back and think what else can be done differently in the children's world. Like everyone else, I could not remain indifferent to the injustice towards nature and animals. Trees are cut down, animals are abused, and unfortunately women also get their share in such a society. We have to do something about it. In other words, we have to create generations that will pass on to the future the idea of protectionism, love of nature, love of animals, love of human beings. With this in mind, I decided to create the Cat Museum. Why cats? Because in the history of civilization the closest animal to man has always been the cat".

The museum is open from 09.00 to 17.00 from Tuesday to Friday and from 10.00 to 18.00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Entrance is free.
