"Museum of the Republic" opened in Istanbul

The Department of Cultural Property of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) restored Makam Taksim, one of the symbolic Ottoman heritage buildings built during the reign of Sultan Mahmud I, and turned it into a museum. The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu.

Taksim Maksemi, from which the name of Taksim Square derives, is a structure where the water flowing into the city from the Taksim Water Pipes built by Mahmud I. Taksim Maxem is an important Ottoman construction, which has been active in meeting the city’s water needs for hundreds of years.

The museum exhibits the history of the Turkish Republic and the personal belongings of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. 

The Museum of the Republic can be visited from 10.00 to 19.00 every day except Monday.

Entrance tickets: full - 50 lire, for privileged categories of citizens - 15 lire, tourist - 100 lire.

Turkey's Finance Ministry to Reveal Names of Major Tax Debtors

Finance and Treasury Minister Mehmet Simsek said the names of taxpayers with tax arrears and fines of 5 million lira or more will be made public. Those who do not want to be on the list of "tax debtors" will have to pay off their debts by the end of September 2024. Taxpayers from earthquake-hit areas will be excluded from the measure.
